Valentine Farm →
The accessible 1.2 mile trail has a crushed gravel surface and winds through woods and fields. Along the way, you can see the Androscoggin River, Bethel Community Forest, and the Habitat For All Garden. This trail is perfect for people of all ages and abilities.
McCoy Chapman Forest →
An out-and-back trail rises to the hills to the north, rewarding hikers with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The Chapman Brook and Sam's trails make a nice loop with waterfalls along Chapman Brook. A loop trail starts on the south side of the road, following an esker and then winding along the Androscoggin River.
Rumford Whitecap →
The Rumford Whitecap Mountain Preserve features two trails that lead to the summit. Along the hike, enjoy breathtaking views of the Mahoosucs to the west, Mexico Hills to the east, and the Androscoggin River Valley to the south.
Glassface Ledges →
This quick and steep 1.6-mile round trip hike begins on a grassy path in the Rumford Center Cemetery. The trail then leads into a mixed hardwood forest with streams and moisture-loving plants. The hike is short and moderately strenuous, ending at a rocky outcrop with a spectacular view of the Androscoggin River Valley.
Shelburne Riverlands →
Shelburne Riverlands covers 880 acres, which includes nine mainland parcels and over 30 islands, stretching along 8.7 miles of the Androscoggin River. Enjoy three miles of trails designed to minimize impacts on wildlife.
Stewart Family Preserve: Puzzle Mountain →
The Stewart Family Preserve has challenging trails that are part of the Grafton Loop Trail and the equally challenging Woodsum Spur Trail. You can also find a more moderate day hike up Puzzle Mountain from ME Route 26.
Step Falls →
The twenty-four-acre Step Falls Preserve includes land on both sides of Wight Brook in Newry, Maine. The brook flows over open ledges and potholes, creating numerous pools that are ideal for wading, swimming, and sunning. A ¾ mile trail provides access to the Falls and becomes steep towards the top.
Intervale Gateway →
A gravel footpath runs alongside an 18-acre field, providing a scenic entry into Bethel Village. The trail connects to the Bethel Pathway and ends at Valentine Farm. The one-way distance is about 2.5 miles.
Buck's Ledge Community Forest →
The Community Forest includes Buck's Ledge, Lapham Ledge, and the summit of Moody Mountain. This 634-acre area offers trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling, while showcasing rare plants and old-growth trees. Keep an eye out for peregrine falcons, nesting eagles, and loons.
Crooked River Headwaters →
Enjoy over seventy miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. This area includes several mountains, ponds, rivers, and streams perfect for fly fishing. Explore a historic mine and forests that naturally filter clean drinking water for one in six Maine residents, including Portland.
Gilead Landing →
Gilead Landing is a picturesque boat launch on the Androscoggin River in Gilead, Maine. The concrete boat ramp was extended in 2021 to ensure continued access during low water conditions.
Newt's Landing →
Newt's Landing is a hand-carry boat launch on the Androscoggin River in West Bethel, Maine.
Moran's Landing →
Moran's Landing is a concrete boat ramp on the Androscoggin River just downstream of the Bear River Rips in Hanover, Maine.
Flint Mountain Wildlands →
Our first forever-wild preserve is located at a high point near the headwaters of the scenic Flint Brook in Albany Township. The Rapa Nui trail climbs 0.5 miles, passing under cliffs and past giant old trees. The trail ends at the Flint Mountain Summit, with stunning views over Chalk Pond to the south.
