Robert Iles retired to Maine after a dentistry career in Lakeland, FL. Bob and his wife, Lida, chaired the successful Rumford Whitecap campaign and Bob continues to chair the Whitecap Stewardship Committee. Bob served on the Board from 2001 to 2012 and was re-elected in 2013.
Robert O’Brien, President, recently retired from a career as a high school science teacher. He resides in Albany Township with his wife Michaela. Bob joined the Board in 2011 and is the current President.
Richard Stratton, Treasurer, retired from a career in health care and education administration. Lives in the Town of Hanover with his wife, Sandra, where he serves as a Selectman. Joined the Board in 2010 and serves as Treasurer, focusing on re-structuring the budgeting and financial reporting process.
Jane Chandler, Registered Nurse working with Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. Serves on the Woodstock Conservation Commission. Joined the Board in 2008 and currently serves as Vice-President.
Joseph Aloisio, Jr. has been the Engineering Manager at Sunday River Ski Resort for the past 25 years. A past Chairman of the Newry Planning Board, Board Member of the Androscoggin River Watershed Council and Sunday River Charitable Foundation, Joe is also a classic car aficionado. Joe served on the Board from 2000 to 2012 and was re-elected in 2013.
Jean Bass, retired minister in United Church of Christ, raised her two daughters in Bethel, brings a faith commitment to nurturing the earth. Joined the Board in 2012, currently chairing the Outreach Committee.
Mac Davis, retired teacher and Dean of Faculty at Gould Academy. A Maine Guide, he guides canoe trips in summer and is a ski guide with Mahoosuc Guide Service in winter. Joined the Board in 2012, serving on the Stewardship Committee.
Bob Duplessie, retired Fire Fighter for City of Portland, served
in the Maine House of Representatives for 8 years, also working with the Depts of Conservation and Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Joined the Board in 2011, serving as Lands Committee Chair.
Larry Ely is a retired Deputy U.S. Marshall and played a leadership role in the Shelburne, NH, encompassing the Philbrook Farm Inn Lands, First, Crow, Middle and Bald Cap Mountains. Larry and his wife Ginger Lawson donated the First Mountain easement to the Land Trust in 2009. Serving on the Lands Committee since 2008, Larry is currently serving his first term on the Board.
Michael Hyman, President of Vesta Property Services, oversees the management and amenity services for large-scale residential communities in Florida. Lives in West Palm Beach but spends as much time as he can at his home in Wilson’s Ripps in Bethel. Joined the Board in 2012.
Bonnie Pooley, Secretary, retired from a long tenure as an English teacher at Gould Academy. She is a registered Maine Guide with a summer guiding service, Maine Explorations. A passionate gardener, she grows vegetables for her own health and also for others in the community who need them. Bonnie has served on the Mahoosuc Land Trust Board since 1991, with a short break in service in 2015.
Sara Whalen Shifirn, directs the IDEAS Center at Gould Academy, a facility devoted to innovation and creative problem solving. She has taught at Gould and lived in Bethel for 22 years. She is also an active Board member of the Weld Free Public Library in Weld, Maine. Sara joined the board in 2014.
Steve Smith spent 30 years in independent and public education. He retired from being a senior high school principal in Topsfield, MA, to take a position with an international educational consulting firm. Steve is a member of the Bethel Rotary Club and is on the board of the Western Mountains Senior College. Steve joined the board in 2014.
Kevin Winsor is a retired sales executive, having worked in Maine and New Hampshire since 1979. He became a Registered Maine Guide in 2007, specializing in fly fishing. Kevin's interests include black and white photography, kayaking, and woodworking. Kevin chairs the Stewardship Committee and joined the board in 2015.
Laurie Winsor, Vice-President, is a member of the Bethel Comprehensive Plan Committee and is the Chair of the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition. She has recently retired as COO at Community Concepts after heading up Marketing and Development at Androscoggin Health Care and Hospice. Laurie joined the Board in 2013.
